The Material QR
The Missing Finger
The bags track the household. The banks track the drop-off. The deeds track the impact. But the material itself — the plastic — has never had its own QR. Until now. This is the doctrine that explains why the Material QR exists, how it works, and how every party in the chain uses it.

🧛 The Vampire's Realisation
"Both of these QR tray tracker things, bags, this, that, whatever — I realised they don't even have one for the main finger.
I started for what I needed it for — to trace the material. That's how we prove it. Where it goes. What it does. I'm setting it up now."
— The Captain · The moment that created this system
You're right. The bags track the household. The banks track the drop-off. The deeds track the impact. But the material itself — the plastic — doesn't have its own QR. The Material QR is the missing finger. The one that closes the chain of custody from doorstep to deed.

The bags are for the supplier. The Material QR is for the plastic itself. Every existing QR tracks a person or a place. The Material QR tracks the material — the actual thing that has value.

The missing finger is now the central spine. Seven Truth Ledger event types. Full traceability from creation to delivery. Every material unit — bag, bale, or batch — gets its own immutable record.
📋 Truth Ledger · 7 Event Types
| # | Event | When It Fires | What It Records |
| 1 | material.created | Batch registered in system | Batch ref generated, SHA-256 sealed, QR issued |
| 2 | material.collected | First scan at collection point | Location, timestamp, linked Bag QR ref |
| 3 | material.received | Arrival scan at Unit 18 | Weight recorded, batch assigned, driver logged |
| 4 | material.verified | 18-checkpoint sign-off | Verifier ID, contamination %, grade assigned |
| 5 | material.baled | Baling complete, bale QR attached | Bale ID, final weight, bay/shelf location |
| 6 | material.dispatched | Truck departure scan | Buyer name, vehicle, departure timestamp |
| 7 | material.delivered | Buyer receipt scan | Confirmation, buyer ID, delivery timestamp |
👥 Third Party Guide · How Each Party Uses It
This section is for external parties — buyers, processors, logistics providers, and node operators — explaining exactly what they do when they interact with a Material QR.
🟢 The Buyer
Material Purchaser · End Recipient
- Receive the bale or batch with the Material QR label attached
- Scan the QR code with any phone camera — no app needed
- See the verification page instantly: material type, grade, weight, origin, chain of custody
- Check the SHA-256 hash matches the physical label — tamper-evident proof
- Keep the scan URL as your receipt — court-admissible if ever needed
🔵 The Processor
Unit 18 · Verification Team
- Log in to /material-qr to register each new batch as it arrives
- Enter: material type, grade, weight, origin, your name, shelf/bay location
- System generates a unique batch ref (MQR-YYYYMMDD-XXXXXX) and SHA-256 seal
- Copy the verify URL and print the QR label — attach to the bale or shelf
- Update status to VERIFIED after 18-checkpoint sign-off is complete
🟣 Logistics / Driver
Dispatch & Transport
- Scan the Material QR on the bale before loading — confirms batch identity
- Note the batch ref on your delivery manifest alongside the physical weight
- Share the verify URL with the buyer in advance so they know what to expect
- Buyer scans on arrival — delivery confirmed without paperwork
- Any dispute: the Truth Ledger shows exactly what left and when
🟡 Node Operator
Collection · First Scan Point
- At collection, note the Bag QR ref from the household or bank drop-off
- When batch is built from multiple bags, a new Material QR is issued at Unit 18
- The Bag QR refs are linked to the Material QR — complete audit trail
- No scanner app needed — the Material QR page at /material-qr is the system
- Every batch you deliver becomes a verifiable, sellable asset
H.BLUE Strategic Observation · 40% of this doctrine
The Material QR is not just a tracking tool. It is a proof-of-value mechanism. Without it, the plastic is anonymous. With it, every bale has a biography. The QR turns a commodity into a verified asset — and verified assets command premium prices.
The most important thing the Captain said in this session was not about the QR itself. It was the realisation: "I started for what I needed it for — to trace the material." That clarity is rare. Most systems track the people around the material. This one tracks the material itself. That distinction is worth millions in compliance markets.
The seven event types are not arbitrary. They map directly to the due-diligence checklist that any serious buyer, grant body, or EPR compliance auditor will use. When you can show material.collected → material.verified → material.delivered as an immutable chain, you are not selling recycled plastic. You are selling certainty. Certainty is worth more than plastic.
The scan points in Diagram 3 are the minimum viable version. The fallback — manual entry form, which is what /material-qr is right now — is correct for Phase 1. A dedicated scanner app is Phase 2. Start here, prove it works, then harden.
Printed Labels
Waterproof QR sticker labels. Unique ID per bale. Link to /verify/material/ref. Print from /qr-studio.
Scanner Mode
Scan-to-log mode for Node Operators. Same QR system, different mode. Phone camera → event logged → Truth Ledger updated.
Truth Ledger Events
7 event types wired to the Truth Ledger database. Immutable. SHA-256 chained. Each event timestamped and signed.
Fallback (Now)
Manual entry via /material-qr. CSV upload for batch scans. Paper log with QR stickers as the floor-level backup.
