The pebble ridge is one of the largest in Europe. And our sovereign survey has flagged this as a ghost-fishing-gear hot-spot — abandoned nets, lines, and pots wash up here from the Bristol Channel fishing fleet. Plastic load 300 kilos per kilometre. Total available: 1.2 tonnes per pass. dPRN value: 540 pounds. Forty eight meals funded. Ninety six volunteer hours. One point eight tonnes of CO2 equivalent saved. Westward Ho! is the marine-debris specialist beach. Different polymer mix — heavy on PA6 nylon from nets and PP ropes — which means the processor matchmaking is different. Our pitch goes not to the council first but to the Devon and Cornwall fishing co-operative, who have a regulatory interest in being seen to recover their own gear. Four passes a year and Westward Ho! delivers 192 meals into the Northam and Bideford food network plus a verified ghost-gear recovery figure that no other beach campaign in the UK currently produces.
